Whyalla
Yes - a day without flying! This is a good opportunity to do some laundry, look around on the ground, visit the local press and check the Internet. As it turns out, finding a laundry vacility is the easiest task, and the visit at the local newspaper (with a circulation of 5.000 copies) is a nice distraction. Hey, we even learned that Whyalla is the third-biggest city in all West-Australia. What do the other cities look like then?????
Our biggest problem - again - is the Internet access. The local agent for Ozemail is very helpful, allows us to write mails in his office and to loggon, but T-online kicked us out after a short while. Hotmail doesn't want us to attach our pictures to the mails we are going to send and it takes dozens of connection- attempts before we can get our latest diary-update on the way to Dirk Borchers, our webmaster in Bremen.
Finally, we can take time off for a little walk to the fishing pier. The main catch here is squid and blue swimmers that are caught with meat-bait. After a while a dolphin visits the waters around the pier. The fishermen feed him with some small fish.
That reminds us of our own appetite and so we return for a nice fish dish at our hotel. After dinner we make a brief visit to the hotel casino. Gisela is more successfull than me at the slot machines. She invests ten dollars and returns with 13. And that is how we concluded the first no-flying day of our trip.
