Wagga Wagga

The sun is shining early in the morning, the winds are calm as we arrive at the airfield. Gisela gives me one of her sweatshirts, otherwise it would be a little too chilly for me. Then, during our two-hour flight, my hands are freezing! It is only around 8 degrees C and we have to get to a higher altitude as the closeby mountains and the winds that are now quite strong make for some heavy turbulences in the air.

By the time we reach Albury the winds have calmed down again. Unfortunately we had forgotten to consider the control-zone around Albury. But the airtraffic controller was very understanding and even gave us some friendly advise for our next flight to Wagga Wagga.

Gisela had picked this spot for its name. "That sounds so exotic, we just have to go see it", she decided. Another landscape, pastures and sheep meadows lined with trees. Even on the pastures you find trees here and there. Towards East you see the mountains reaching all the way to the coast. Right now, on our flying path, the mountains are not that tall but further East they reach up to 3.000 feet.

Wagga Wagga has a "real" small airport and two airlines depart several times daily towards Sydna and Melbourne with their bit two-engine 'turboprops'. We come across a friendly human being who allows us to park our trikes in his hangar for two days for just 40 dollars. In the hangar next to it we meet two German students. They have internships at the local University. One of them is from Varrel - but she doesn't seem to have watched "Buten & Binnen" very often ... After we had take-out Chinese food for dinner last night we decide to continue the exotic food series with a visit at an Indian restaurant.
